Potato is the most widely used vegetable in Indian cuisine. And it’s our favourite too. Both vegetarians and non-vegetarians equally relish its rich taste. In simple words we Indians cannot imagine our cuisine without potato. Yet the most interesting fact is that Potato is not at all a traditional Indian vegetable. It was of foreign origin. It is believed that the Portuguese brought Potato (which they called ‘Batata’) to India from South America in the early 17th century (Refer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_potato). Imagine how amazingly we included this tasty vegetable in our culinary culture and made it our beloved.
